All persons are encouraged to program your emergency contact phone number(s) in your cell phone under "ICE"
Emergency personnel are trained to look for this.

The ICE (In Case of Emergency) program was conceived by paramedic Bob Brotchie in May 2005. The idea behind the program is to enable first responders (paramedics, firefighters, police officers) to identify people and contact their next of kin to obtain important medical information. he is right when i got back in the fd last year i was told about this. I have had it in my phone since then and also mad my mom and step dad do it. Great post doug.

thanks for posting Doug! We had discussed this at an LSA meeting a long time ago, and I know quite a few people that do this now... it's a fantastic idea and I think a MUST for anyone who rides the streets...

I setup my ICE numbers in my phone about a year ago. One of them is labeled: ICE WIFE. Sure enough, my wife saw this in my phone and assumed it was a comment regarding her proclivities. Don't do what I did, and not share what ICE means BEFORE others see it.

Hey just a little side note about this... if you put a special character or space in front of the ICE it will be at the top of your contacts in your phone.

My phone lets you tag up to 3 different numbers as "ICE". When you open my Contacts, In Case of Emergency tops the list. When you open it, all three numbers are displayed. It also has a "Personal Info" section included that lets you list any medical conditions that First Responders should be aware of.
